Suffolk Farmers’ Market
Location:
Market Park, Adjacent to Seaboard Station Railroad Museum – 326 North Main Street
The Suffolk Farmers’ Market kicks off at Market Park with the very best in locally grown fruit and vegetables, homemade jams and jellies, fresh seafood, cut flowers, handcrafted jewelry and more. The market season will continue through September, open from 3pm-6pm on Wednesdays and 9am-3pm on Saturdays. The Suffolk Farmers’ Market and associated activities are free and open to the public. Taste of Suffolk Downtown Street Festival

North Main Street from Finney Avenue to Washington Street
Join us for the 4th Annual Taste of Suffolk Downtown Street Festival, a free, family-friendly event complete with two stages for all day entertainment!  Sample signature dishes from some of Suffolk’s best eateries; enjoy the kid’s area complete with bounce houses, clown and face painting; “shop local” at our unique boutiques and our on-site merchants.  Find your next new car at the New Vehicle Exhibition featuring local dealerships. Foodie Film: “Chocolat”
Location:
Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts, 110 W. Finney Ave.
Grab dinner at one of Suffolk’s fine eateries and take in a foodie film at the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts. Chocolate stars Juliette Binoche, Judi Dench, Alfred Molina, Lena Olin and Johnny Depp. 1960, small town France. Vianne Rocher and her pre-teen daughter move into town and open a chocolate shop just as lent is beginning. The town's small-minded mayor can't accept this and does his best to shut her down, but her warm personality and incredible chocolates manage to win over many townsfolk. Things get shaken up even more when a group of river drifters, led by Roux, stop into town (to the even greater distress of the mayor) and Vianne takes up with him. Meanwhile, she's been helping Josephine out of her abusive marriage and her equally freethinking landlord, Amande Voisin, get together with her grandson, Luc, whose mother doesn't approve of Amande's ways. 7:30pm, Tickets: $5 per person. Cinema in the Park Series: The Twilight Saga: New Moon

Constant’s Wharf Park & Marina, behind Hilton Garden Inn Riverfront
"Cinema in the Park" begins with "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," the blockbuster film based on the best-selling Stephenie Meyer Twilight novel. Free and open to the public, movie goers should bring chairs or blankets for lawn seating as the film is showing in Constant's Wharf Park overlooking the Nansemond River. After Bella recovers from the vampire attack that almost claimed her life, she looks to celebrate her birthday with Edward and his family. However, a minor accident during the festivities results in Bella's blood being shed, a sight that proves too intense for the Cullens, who decide to leave the town of Forks, Washington, for Bella and Edward's sake. Initially heartbroken, Bella finds a form of comfort in reckless living, as well as an even-closer friendship with Jacob Black. Danger in different forms awaits. 6pm, free and open to the public. A Feast for the Eyes: Extraordinary Culinary Arts

Suffolk Art Gallery, Shooting Star Gallery, The Red Thread Studio & The Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts – Downtown Suffolk
Suffolk's art venues have joined together to celebrate the extraordinary culinary arts. Suffolk Art Gallery presents "Nectar of the Gods: Artifacts from the Collection of the Italian Coffee Company, Massimo Zanetti." The Story of Hills Brothers Coffee-purchased by Massimo Zanetti Beverage USA in 2005-blends many stories, from the history of coffee and advertising to history of our country during the last 130 years. Red Thread Studio is hosting "Table Wear: The Show" showcasing the fashion of your wardrobe and the fashion adorning your table. Shooting Star Gallery is exhibiting "Food for Thought: Culinary Images in Art" with prints, paintings, photography and pottery by a host of artists. Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts is hosting Singular Moment: The Japanese Tea Company and Just Your Cup of Tea: Pieces from the Collection of Unilever Lipton. Free and open to the public. Queen’s Luncheon & Fashion Show (Peanut Fest Kick-off)

Suffolk National Guard Armory, 2761 Godwin Blvd.
The Suffolk Peanut Festival Queen is selected from among rising high school seniors that are evaluated by a panel based on four criteria: a creative writing essay; school activities; awards and achievements; and community involvement. The queen and her court are treated to a luncheon and popular fashion show by the Pilot Club of Suffolk. This is the first in a series of Peanut Fest events over the traditional week of fun and family in Suffolk. 12pm. Tickets are $15 per person.
